1. Copyright Ownership and License Grant
1.1 Copyright Ownership: The author(s) retain full copyright of the article, including but not limited to the rights of attribution, protection of integrity, reproduction, distribution, dissemination via information networks, and compilation. This Agreement does not constitute a copyright transfer or a shared copyright arrangement of any kind.
1.2 Non-exclusive License: To ensure the publication and dissemination of the article, the author(s) hereby grant to the Editorial Office of the Journal of Tropical Biology a non-exclusive, worldwide, and perpetual license to exercise the following rights:
(1) To publish, distribute, and disseminate the article in print, electronic, online, and any other existing or future media formats;
(2) To permit domestic and international literature indexing systems and academic databases (e.g., CNKI, Wanfang Data, DOAJ, Scopus, etc.) to index and disseminate the article;
(3) To manage and execute usage agreements with third parties on behalf of the author(s), including but not limited to DOI registration and long-term digital archiving.
1.3 Open Access Commitment: Upon acceptance and publication, the article shall immediately enter the Gold Open Access publishing workflow and be made permanently available to the public free of charge under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).
2. Article Processing Charges (APC)
To cover publication costs, the author(s) agree to pay the following Article Processing Charges (APC):
Review Fee: 200 CNY per reviewer (calculated based on the final number of peer reviewers engaged upon acceptance);
Page Charges: 200–300 CNY per printed page (calculated based on the final typeset length upon acceptance; payment required prior to scheduling for publication).
Fee Waiver: Authors facing genuine financial hardship and lacking project funding support may apply for a partial or full waiver at the time of submission.
Note: The review fee covers actual remuneration paid to external peer reviewers for their evaluation work. The number of reviewers is confirmed only after the formal peer review process is completed, hence the fee is charged upon acceptance.
3. Author Self-Archiving and Post-Publication Rights
The author(s) retain the following unrestricted rights without requiring prior permission from the Editorial Office:
Institutional Archiving: To deposit the final published version (PDF) in institutional repositories, such as the National Basic Science Data Sharing Network or the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institutional Repository.
Personal Sharing: To share the article on personal homepages, academic networking platforms (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu), or social media channels (e.g., WeChat Official Accounts).
Subsequent Use: To reuse content from the article in subsequent publications (e.g., books, textbooks, research papers) or for teaching purposes (e.g., lecture notes), provided proper attribution is given.
Research Commercialization: Intellectual property rights arising from derivative works based on the article (including but not limited to patents) shall remain with the author(s) or their affiliated institutions.
